Both drivers have minor injuries after accident

CRANBERRY TWP — Two vehicles collided at the Cranberry Commons parking lot Tuesday resulting in one rolling onto its side.

The drivers, both female, were taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry hospital for evaluation after suffering minor scrapes. Neither driver suffered serious injuries and there were no passengers in the vehicles, township police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said.

As of this morning, police had not released the names of the drivers.

The collision occurred about 11:40 a.m. when a white Nissan Murano traveling east at a three-way intersection failed to yield to a silver Jaguar X-Type traveling north after turning into the lot off Route 228. The Jaguar collided with the passenger side of the Nissan knocking it onto its side and deploying the airbags in both vehicles, Mascellino said.

No police tickets were given although the accident is under investigation, Mascellino said.

Though the parking lot and roads are private property, they still are considered traffic ways and are subject to vehicle and traffic law, Mascellino said.

The roads do not have posted speed limit signs, but speed probably was not a factor in the collision, he said.

In addition to the police, the Cranberry Township EMS and fire department responded to the 911 call.
