ZELIENOPLE — Registration for the Zelienople Public Library's annual summer reading program are being taken through Saturday at the library, 227 S. High St.

The summer reading kickoff party will be at 6 p.m. June 16. The celebration will include an ice cream social and magic show.

All summer reading activities and the party are free.

The sign up and kickoff for summer reading at the Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the library.Magician Steve Haberman will present an illusion and science show at 10 a.m.The summer reading program will include a variety of activities, programs, special events and an end-of-summer picnic for all participating children. There will be reading prizes and fun for kids of all ages.

PORTERSVILLE — Portersville Alliance Church will have a yard and bake sale from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Portersville Christian School cafeteria, 343 E. Portersville Road.All types of yard sale items and homemade baked goods, as well as snacks and lunch, will be available. There will be a bag sale Saturday afternoon.Proceeds will go toward the purchase of a new tractor/mower for the church and school.

MARS — Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, will have a strawberry festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.Full meals and desserts will be available a la carte and for takeout.For more information, call 724-538-8672 or visit www.oldunionchurch.com.

The Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., will offer a “Fairy Gardening” program at 6:30 p.m. June 19 at the library.“Fairy Gardening” will be presented by Linda Mertz, master gardener, who will discuss what plants to use and the decorative items available.To register, call 724-287-1715 or send e-mail to rlandau@bcfls.org.The library will offer a series of programs for adults monthly from June through October.Notices of upcoming news should be received by the Focus Department one week in advance of the event.
