ADAMS TWP — The Mars Primary Center principal will move to the administration office.

The Mars School Board voted Tuesday night to promote Elizabeth McMahon to assistant superintendent/director of curriculum for elementary education. McMahon, who has been the principal at the primary center for nine years, will earn $114,000 in her new job, which will become effective July 1.

The current assistant superintendent/director of curriculum, Matt Friedman, will now hold that position for secondary education.

Board President Dayle Ferguson said, “It was very clear that you, given your dedicated service to our district and your outstanding leadership at the primary center, were deserving of this promotion and are ably poised to strengthen and expand achievement opportunities for our kindergarten through sixth grade students and staff.”

McMahon said the board recently talked with her about the position.

“I love my job at the primary center,” McMahon said. “I never saw this coming.”

She said she is honored by the board’s confidence in her and looks forward to the new job.

“I hope to support the elementary program and move forward with consistency and fidelity,” McMahon said.

“I’m excited for the challenge of what’s ahead. Lets go.”

McMahon was named principal in August 2005.

She earned her bachelor’s, masters and doctorate degrees from Duquesne University, where she also earned her special education and administration certificates.

McMahon came to the district from the Peters Township School District in Allegheny County, where she was a learning support teacher.
