Butler man charged with indecent assault
A convicted sex offender is accused again, this time for inappropriately touching a young girl, Butler police said.
Brian M. Stivason, 27, of Butler was arraigned Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of indecent assault.
Police charged Stivason after an 8-year-old girl last month told a Butler County Children & Youth Services caseworker that he had struck her in the genitals, according to court documents.
The defendant, during a police interview April 7, denied touching the girl. But when investigators pressed him on his denial, he invoked his right to speak to an attorney.
District Judge Pete Shaffer on Wednesday arraigned Stivason, who was already in the Butler County Prison on charges he did not report personal information to police as required under Megan’s Law.
Butler police in that case arrested the defendant on March 31 after learning he had taken a job and had gotten a cell phone without registering that information with state police.
Under the state’s Megan’s Law, registered sex offenders must notify police when they move, change employment or enroll in school.
Additionally, offenders’ telephone numbers and e-mail accounts must be reported.
He is charged in that case with three felony counts of failing to comply with registration of sexual offenders requirements.
Stivason is being held in the county prison on $100,000 bail in both cases, pending preliminary hearings on both cases at 1 p.m. Monday.
Butler County Court records showed that Stivason is a Tier 1 sex offender, the lowest classification.
He was convicted in February of corruption of minors for asking a 12-year-old girl he met through Facebook in 2013 to send him naked photos of herself. The girl denied the request.
He was sentenced to a year in jail but was immediately paroled because of time served. He also was ordered to register under Megan’s Law.
