SRU track teams sweep home Open

The Slippery Rock University men’s track and field team coasted to a win Thursday night at the SRU Open.

The Rock finished with 205.5 points, well ahead of John Carroll University, which finished with 117 points.

SRU recorded 24 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and two NCAA provisional qualifying marks.

Jordan Pacheco hit a NCAA-mark in the pole vault with a leap of 4.8 meters. Tyler Kachelries reached it in the javelin with a season-best throw of 63.08 meters.

The Slippery Rock University women’s track team scored 223 points and ran away from the field at the SRU Open.

The Rock’s Sam Taylor hit a NCAA automatic qualifying mark with a throw of 48.34 meters in the javelin.

SoftballSRU split a pair of PSAC West Division games, dropping Game 1 3-2 before rallying to win the nightcap 9-8.Sophomore shortstop Katie Kaiser led The Rock (13-16, 9-7) with two RBI and a home run in Game 2. SRU freshman Caitlin Baxter, a Butler graduate, hit a three-run home run to put The Rock ahead 6-0 after the first inning.
