DUI charges filed in crashes

Police say driver hit 2 parked cars

A Butler man sentenced only a month earlier for drunken driving in Allegheny County allegedly was intoxicated behind the wheel of a car that hit two parked vehicles in the city March 31.

Butler police on Tuesday charged Ryan J. Dunmyre, 24, with his latest case of driving under the influence.

Police said they were called for a suspected hit-and-run crash just before 11 p.m. March 31 on Fourth Avenue. The victim reported that a blue Toyota Camry hit his car and pickup truck, and drove away.

A short time later officers found Dunmyre a block away at his home changing a flat tire on the suspected hit-and-run car, which had “heavy front passenger damage,” according to court documents.

Police said Dunmyre smelled of alcohol and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test after failing field sobriety tests.

Toxicology results showed Dunmyre’s blood-alcohol level was 0.174 percent, documents said, or more than double the state’s 0.08 percent limit.

He is charged with DUI and faces a preliminary hearing May 12.

Police noted in court papers that Dunmyre has two prior DUI convictions.

Allegheny County Court records showed that Dunmyre on Feb. 24 was sentenced to three months in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program, followed by six months of probation.

That case stemmed from the defendant’s arrest Aug. 2 by state police in Frazier Township. He eventually pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license-DUI related.

Dunmyre’s other prior DUI conviction was in 2011 in Butler County.
