7:50 a.m. Wednesday — James L. Santoli, 52, of Butler was arrested after allegedly exposing himself to two women in the parking lot of a convenience store on Pillow Street. A police report described Santoli as “highly intoxicated.”He is charged with indecent exposure, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.Wednesday — Police charged a pair of alleged shoplifters stemming from a suspected drugged driving arrest last month.The driver, Matthew A. Hertzig, 32, of Concord Township, appeared to be impaired about 8:20 p.m. March 5 when he was pulled over at New Castle and 13th streets, according to court documents. Officers later found a spoon with suspected drug residue and a syringe in the car.The search also turned up evidence of another crime, documents said.Inside a purse of Hertzig's passenger, Brooke D. Williams, 28, of Butler, was assorted jewelry that police suspect was stolen from the Kmart store at the Pullman Square shopping plaza.Hertzig also was wearing a ring allegedly taken from the store. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test following the traffic stop. Police recently received toxicology reports that showed he had the anti-anxiety drug Xanax and marijuana in his system.He is charged with driving under the influence of drugs and driving with a suspended license.Additionally, Hertzig and Williams both are charged with retail theft, conspiracy to commit retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.11:16 p.m. April 3 — Joshua J. Parker, 32, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his wife, Nicole Parker, during a domestic dispute at their home in the 400 block of Miller Avenue.Nicole Parker told police that her husband pushed her to the floor several times, pulled her hair and grabbed her around the neck, court documents said.The defendant was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and released on his own recognizance.5:50 p.m. April 3 — Bradley J. Newcamp, 28, of Adams Township hoodwinked a store at Pullman Square, according to court documents.Police said Newcamp took a vacuum cleaner from the back of Kmart to the front and returned it for a store gift card worth $137.79. When police later searched him, they found a syringe in a pants pocket, documents said.Newcamp is charged with theft by deception, retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
3:18 p.m. Tuesday — An unknown scammer targeted a local resident in a suspected bail money ploy. The plot was thwarted but only after the would-be victim's family caught on to the scam.The target, who police did not identify, was called and told that a relative was in jail and needed bail money. But in lieu of wiring money, the scam artist instructed the resident to purchase prepaid debit cards at a store at Moraine Pointe Plaza and provide the card numbers.Family members of the resident intervened in time and notified authorities.Police again asked the public to be leery of suspicious phone calls and be on alert for such scams.
Tuesday — A laptop computer was stolen from the Student Activities Center at Grove City College. The red and white, Hewlett-Packard computer was taken between 1:20 p.m. Friday and 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.
Wednesday — Police reported a case of apparent identity theft after a 27-year-old West Virginia woman last month learned that a federal tax refund was issued to someone using her Social Security number.The woman discovered the identity theft March 26 when she went to file her 2014 tax return at the H & R Block office at the Clearview Mall in Center Township.
9:45 p.m. Wednesday — A Mercer County woman was hurt in a one-vehicle wreck in Irwin Township.The crash happened when Gail R. Schuknecht, 47, lost control of her sport utility vehicle, traveled down an embankment and hit a tree and deer fence along Route 8.Schuknecht, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. Police said she was cited for a lane violation.Wednesday — Two extension cords and a trash can were stolen from a trailer in a burglary on Old Route 8 in Irwin Township. The unknown suspect also damaged a window in the break-in that happened between March 10 and Wednesday.
4:33 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Caitlynn C. Richeal, 22, of Beaver Falls, Beaver County, and a sport utility vehicle driven by Lauren M. Tarnaski, 21, of New Castle collided at Route 258 and North Liberty Plaingrove Road in Liberty Township, Mercer County.Police cited Richeal for driving at an unsafe speed.
