Man, girlfriend face felony drug charges
Butler police Monday arrested a felon and his girlfriend after discovering a suspected marijuana-grow operation at their apartment.
Clecy Thompson, 24, and Brittany M. Kimmel, 23, both face felony drug charges. Thompson is being held in the Butler County Prison on a parole detainer.
Kimmel is free after posting $15,000 bail on Tuesday.
City officers were called about 1:45 p.m. Monday to assist state parole officers in finding and detaining Thompson, who they believed could be armed, according to a police report.
Authorities found Thompson and Kimmel at the couple’s apartment in the 400 block of Zeigler Avenue. But the visit also turned up the alleged illegal grow operation.
Police arrested them and later got a search warrant for the apartment. Among the materials seized were six marijuana plants, grow lights and potting soil, court documents said.
Additionally, police found a .32-caliber pistol and two marijuana smoking pipes.
Police said they continue to investigate the gun found at the apartment. Thompson cannot have a firearm because of his criminal record.
Among his prior convictions is one for felony theft stemming from a suspected armed home invasion in Butler in 2008.
He was sentenced to 16 to 32 months in state prison and placed on 5 years’ probation.
Thompson and Kimmel in Monday’s arrest are both charged with manufacture of a controlled substance, a felony, and possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
