LOCK HAVEN — Butler High graduate and California (Pa.) University sophomore Mick Fennell has been named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week.

Fennell recorded his second straight complete-game shutout on Saturday, scattering three hits with five strikeouts and no walks in a 1-0 victory over Lake Erie College.

Slippery Rock University junior catcher Alex Bell was named the PSAC-West Player of the Week.

Bell batted .625 with 10 hits, nine RBI and scored seven runs in four games.

ERIE — Three Grove City High School wrestlers have received District 10, Region 1 all-star honors.Junior 132-pounder Luke Walter made first team while seniors Jared Sample (145 pounds) and Chet Simoni (152) made second team.

HARRISBURG — Palmer Cuny, a Cranberry Township resident and sixth-grader at St. Kilian School, won a state free throw championship recently.Cuny competed in the Knights of Columbus statewide Free Throw Championships and won the boys 11-12 age division.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has reported that hunters harvested an estimated 352,920 deer during the 1013-14 season.That represents an increase of nearly 3 percent from last season’s harvest of 343,110.
