Butler police arrested a suspected drug dealer and seized more than $1,600 in currency following a traffic stop late Sunday night.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was caught driving a car allegedly loaned to him by one of his alleged “customers,” police said.

That purported victim, a 27-year-old Butler woman, told police that she admitted giving her dealer use of her car on Saturday in exchange for a $20 rock of crack cocaine, according to a police report.

But she reported what happened when she failed to get her car back.

Butler police officer Nicholas Shulik was on patrol about 11:20 p.m. Sunday when he spotted a car make an illegal left turn onto North Jackson Street, which is a one-way road.

Shulik stopped the vehicle at North Washington and Locusts streets. It turned out to be the woman’s missing car.

He approached the vehicle and saw a digital scale in the coin tray, the police report said. The scale appeared to have crack cocaine on it.

Police said they were unable to verify the name the man gave because he had no identification on him.

He claimed he was from California and that his ID was at a Butler Township motel, where he was staying.

The suspect also told police that the car belonged to his ex-girlfriend.

A search of the man turned up more than $1,600.

A search of the car turned up the suspect’s purported cell phone. It was “filled with text messages consistent with the dealing of crack cocaine,” Shulik found.

The suspect is charged under the name “John Doe” with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility, both felonies.

Additionally, he is charged with driving a vehicle without valid inspection, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and driving with a license.
