Cookson places fifth at states
Butler’s Jacob Cookson rolled a six-game series of 1,268, but fell in the first round of the step-ladder finals at the Pennsylvania High School State Bowling Championships at North Versailles Bowl Friday afternoon.
Cookson lost to Michael Delle Famine in the opening-round match by one pin, 218-217.
Cookson’s high game of the day was a 268.
Javon Trout of Hempfield won the state title with a 202-183 win over Brandon Runk of East Pennsboro.
Jack Celmer of Conrad Weiser had a 300 game.
Knoch’s Brett Miner was 20th with 1,077 pins. His high game was a 204.
On the girls side, Butler’s Megan Paul placed sixth with a six-game series of 1,134. She had a high game of 213.
Her teammate, Mikayla White, was 20th with a 987 score. Her high game was a 191.
