Return trip for Butler

Tornado girls set to defend title

The Butler girls bowling team will get a chance to defend their title next Saturday at the North Versailles Bowl.

The Golden Tornado finished sixth of 18 teams at the WPIBL Western Regional Saturday to qualify for the state championships.

Senior Kelly Bintrim led Butler with a 481 series, while junior Megan Paul had a 460 and MiKayla White finished with a 434.

The Butler boys fell 71 pins short of qualifying. The Golden Tornado finished in ninth place out of 18 teams.

Garrett Sexton led Butler with a 504 series, while Matthew Wetzel rolled a 472 and Jacob Cookson had a 471.

Boys basketball

The Summit Academy boys basketball team earned its second PIAA win in school history by beating District 5 champion Conemaugh Township 75-59 Saturday night at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown.

The Knights (17-6) closed the game with a 32-12 flurry in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Summit Academy, which led 32-26 at halftime, had allowed the Indians to take a 47-43 lead by the end of the third quarter.

Dasonte White scored a game-high 33 points for the Knights, while Micheon Anderson-Meade (16 points) and Donte Tyson (10) also finished in double figures.

Summit Academy will play Beaver Falls, the third-place team out of the WPIAL in the second round Wednesday at 8 p.m. at North Allegheny.
