SR girls end season with 51-23 loss

Slippery Rock’s offense was stifled Saturday in suffering a season-ending 51-23 girls basketball loss to Mercyhurst Prep.

The Rockets (17-6) faced the Lakers in the District 10 Class AAA consolation game at Meadville High School, with the winner earning a trip to the PIAA playoffs.

The Rockets trailed 29-12 at halftime and never got on track. Marissa Siebka paced Slippery Rock with seven points and Jenna Whitmer scored six.

Nicole Papley had 10 rebounds in the contest.

The Rockets sank just nine of 50 shots from the floor and attempted only three free throws.

“We just didn’t make shots,” said Slippery Rock coach John Tabisz. “They (Lakers) put a lot of pressure on us and they executed well offensively. We couldn’t catch up.”

Despite the loss, the 2013-14 season was one to build on for the Rockets.

“It was a monumental success,” Tabisz said. “We placed second in our region and won a playoff game. It was a nice reward for our seniors and serves as added incentive for the players coming back next year.”
