Butler bowlers finish strong
Butler’s varsity bowling teams polished off perfect regular seasons Wednesday by sweeping Seneca Valley, 7-0, at Family Bowlaway.
The Golden Tornado boys put together their first-ever unbeaten regular season, combining to roll 10 200-games. Garrett Sexton had a 256 in the first game and fellow senior Jacob Cookson rolled a 256 in the final game.
Cookson also rolled a 213 while Sexton had a 201. Nick Huff rolled three 200-games — 201, 211 and 235 — while Cody Rosebauer did likewise with a 212, 200 and 226. Sexton rolled a 629 series, Rosenbauer a 638, Cookson a 660 and Huff a 647.
The Tornado girls extended the program’s undefeated regular season streak to 50 matches. Junior Megan Paul rolled a season-high 634 series, including games of 231 and 207. Senior Ciara Pellegrini had a season-high 595 series, including a 215 game.
Senior Kelly Bintrim rolled a 213 and 205 for the Butler girls while junior Mikayla White added a 200.
Butler seniors Cookson, Sexton, Rosebauer, Andrew Barron, Bintrim and Pellegrini were honored after the match.
In other action:
Brett Miner (606) and Joel Zacherl (601) both reached a 600-plus series to lead the Knoch boys bowling team to a 7-0 sweep of Mars on Wednesday.
Miner’s effort included games of 227 and 216 while Zacherl rolled a 221 and 198. The highlight for Mars was Justin Schell’s 204 game.
The Planets prevailed 7-0 in the girls’ match, with Allison Bruce rolling a 188 in a single game. Knoch’s Amber McIntire managed a game of 161, 50 pins over her average.
Private Schools
The First Baptist Christian boys basketball team dropped a pair of games recently, losing 73-60 to Jefferson County and 63-50 to Community Alliance.
Paul Drake scored 38 points, had five assists and six steals against Jefferson County while Trevor Barnhart had 14 points, six assists and seven rebounds. Alan Han had 13 rebounds.
Drake had 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists against Community Alliance with Barnhart adding 17 points and seven boards, Brent Block six points and Han eight rebounds.
