PHILADELPHIA — Gay marriage advocates plan to visit Philadelphia's City Hall today to seek marriage licenses or have their out-of-state marriages recognized.

Organizers Bob and Bill Sullivan of South Philadelphia say they married four years ago in Vermont, but don't enjoy the legal benefits of marriage in Pennsylvania.

Bill Sullivan has been unable to get a driver's license after taking his husband's name.

And he relies on public disability support because he's not covered under Bob's insurance.

Marriage Equality USA said momentum “appears unstoppable” after federal court judges struck down same-sex marriage bans in Virginia, Utah and Oklahoma. In Pennsylvania, a key test case is scheduled for trial in June.

ALTOONA — Contract talks between the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's hospital in Altoona and the union representing registered nurses resume today following a 10-day hiatus and a one-day strike.Both sides told The Altoona Mirror that they hope to reach an accord.A union representative said nurses “are committed to achieving a contract.” Although nurses were warned at a rally last week to be ready to walk out again if no agreement is reached, the SEIU Healthcare PA representative said no strike notice has been issued.The contract expired at the end of last year.

PITTSBURGH — A former armored car guard faces life in prison for murdering his partner as part of a plot to steal $2.3 million from their truck.Kenneth Konias Jr., 24, of Dravosburg, was scheduled to be sentenced today.An Allegheny County judge convicted Konias in November of first-degree murder, robbery and theft. The judge found Konias killed fellow Garda Cash Logistics guard Michael Haines and stole the money they had collected from businesses earlier that day, Feb. 28, 2012.The murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence, though the judge can impose additional time to send a message about Konias' actions and perceived lack of remorse.
