Damsels grab first win

Karns City's LeeAnn Gibson lays it in over Clarion-Limestone's Lily Port during the Gremlins' 75-33 win at Karns City High School Friday night. Gibson finished with a triple double, scoring 26 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and finishing with 10 rebounds.

The Union girls were excited Friday night. No Golden Damsels team had ever finished winless.

Union rallied from a four-point deficit at the end of the third quarter to beat West Forest 55-50 in Tionesta to make sure this team didn't either.

The Damsels are now 1-14.

“We made some baskets. We haven't shot the ball well all year long,” Damsels coach Ken Mortimer said. “They were excited (after the win). I would think they were very relieved.”

West Forest led 43-39 at the end of the third quarter. Danara Hawk led Union with 18 points, while Kassie McGarrity (14) and Tabby Dietz (14) also finished in double figures.

Karns City 75, Clarion-Limestone 33 — LeeAnn Gibson dazzled Friday night. The Karns City junior record a triple double to help the Gremlins beat Clarion-Limestone 75-33 in Karns City.

Gibson scored a game-high 26 points, recorded 13 steals and had 10 rebounds for Karns City (15-1).

The Gremlins built a 41-15 halftime lead and were never threatened.

Emily LoPresti (14 points) and Shanel Preston (13) also scored in double figures.

Annie Hegedus added 10 rebounds for Karns City.

Burrell raced out to a 28-5 first-quarter lead and cruised from there. Maddie Canel led Knoch with 13 points.
