KC boys claim 4th in row

Karns City's boys basketball team remained on a roll with a 58-52 win over visiting Union Thursday night. It was the fourth straight victory for the Gremlins (9-6).

Logan Moroney dropped 17 points on the Golden Knights and secured 18 rebounds.

Tyler Kepple added 17 points and six assists for KC, while David Markel scored 12 points.

Cole Morris paced Union (7-8) with 17 points.

Swimming

Knoch's Paul Kasunic won the 100-yard backstroke and aided the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams in the Knights' boys 92-36 win at Deer Lakes. Knoch improved to 5-5.

In the girls' meet, Brooke Zukowski (200 IM, 100 breaststroke) and Abby Jones (100 freestyle) picked up victories for Knoch (4-6) in a 101-61 win over the Lancers. The Knights picked up crucial second and third-place finishes, including Christa Marie Wilson's runner-up effort in the 100 backstroke. The junior shaved three seconds off her time, finishing in 1:19.72.

Ice Hockey

Freeport continued its hot streak, winning its eighth consecutive game with a 12-0 win over South Fayette at the Belmont Ice Complex.

The Yellowjackets (9-3-2) outshot the Lions 41-9. Katie Hill picked up the shutout for Freeport, making nine saves.

Cole Hepler and Eric Waddell both had hat tricks for Freeport.

Butler 4, Mt. Lebanon 2 — Three first-period goals helped the Golden Tornado (8-6) beat the Blue Devils at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center.

Following Mt. Lebanon's first goal, Troy Double, Connor Scott and Tanner Chuba scored to put the Golden Tornado ahead.

Double added an insurance goal in the third period.

Logan Rothbauer made 23 saves for Butler.

Rifle

Butler 795 (49x), Indiana 793 (46x) — Alissa Wulff, Rebecca Frazier, Zach Fisher, Wesley McCurdy and Anchor Losch each shot 100s to help the Golden Tornado edge the Little Indians.
