Public panel OK'd to aid supt. selection

BUTLER TWP — Members of the Butler School Board administrative search committee on Wednesday agreed to form a community advisory committee to assist in choosing the district’s next superintendent.

Committee members tentatively decided the community advisory group would be made up of nine people, one each from a business, nonprofit, health services, early and higher education organizations, and student, parent, teacher and women’s groups.

There are also nine school board members.

Michael Strutt, Butler superintendent, suggested the advisory group should have the opportunity to ask final candidates questions during the last round of superintendent interviews, and provide feedback for the board before making a final decision.

Committee members will be reaching out to various organizations and groups in the coming weeks.

The application deadline for all lead administrative positions available — superintendent, assistant superintendent and business manager — is on Feb. 14.

The school board is hoping to hire a superintendent by March 17, and fill the other two positions afterward so the new superintendent can have a say in those decisions.
