Bernice LaPearle
Bernice LaPearle, 87, passed away peacefully Monday at Memorial Hospital in Sheboygan, Wis., with her family at her side. She passed away after a valiant six month struggle following open heart surgery.
Bernice will be missed by her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, great mom, generous grandma and thrilled great-grandma. Bernice had a special love for her grandchildren and they all have fond memories of time spent with her.
Bernice was born on Dec. 16, 1926, in Bradys Bend. She was the first of seven children born to Frances and Anton Zagar.
Bernice married Leroy LaPearle on Oct. 21, 1944, in Bradys Bend. They were married for 59 years before his death in 2004. Bernice and Leroy owned and operated Hi-Lo Bakery for 25 years.
They enjoyed boating and traveling. The family spent many weekends boating at Green Lake and fishing on Lake Michigan. Bernice and Leroy took numerous trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, and many Caribbean cruises. They had a special trip to Croatia to visit cousins.
Bernice loved watching all sports, especially the Packers. The day before she passed away, she watched the entire Packers game. She also enjoyed playing bingo and trips to Oneida.
Bernice is survived by her daughters, Nancy LaPearle of Sheboygan, Wis., Sandy (Steve) Smith of Clovis, Calif., and Antoinette (Ben) Rimkus of Sheboygan, Wis.; three grandchildren, Scott Rimkus of Sheboygan, Wis., Joshua (Trisha) Smith of Ashburn, Va., and Jessalynn (Spencer) Walse of Fresno, Calif.; six great-granddaughters; her sisters, Betty Boyle of Plymouth, Wis., Mary Jane McHenry of Sheboygan, Wis., and Rosalie Fields of Abilene, Texas; her sisters-in-law, Dolly Fleeger of Chicora and Rose (Glenn) Filges of Butler; numerous cherished nieces and nephews; and her special bingo friend, Ruth Glaubig.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; one sister, Anna O'Keefe; and two brothers, Frank and Eugene Zagar.
LAPEARLE — A memorial service for Bernice LaPearle, who died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 10 at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th St., Sheboygan, Wis., with the Rev. Paul Fliss officiating.
