Myoma Road work under way
ADAMS TWP — Work to replace a 1940 bridge has begun on Myoma Road.
Mekis Construction is the general contractor on the $3 million project, which is expected to be finished in October.
Deborah Casadei of the state Department of Transportation’s District 10 said the short, open-grate bridge spans Breakneck Creek near Myoma Road’s intersection with Mars-Evans City Road. A temporary bridge and road will allow traffic to bypass the existing bridge while a new steel girder bridge and approaches are built.
Casadei said a short-term detour will be required to tie the existing road to the temporary road. The detour will create a transition once the paving of the temporary road is complete in late spring or early summer.
A house, garage and several trees near the creek were removed to prepare for the project. Workers now are preparing that ground for the road that will lead to the temporary bridge.
Also included in the project is the replacement of a 1959 steel pipe under Mars-Evans City Road that carries a small stream into Breakneck Creek, Casadei said. The pipe will be replaced with a box culvert.
She said beginning in May, traffic on Mars-Evans City Road will be reduced to one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals.
