SV girls earn road victory

Big nights from Lexus Lambert and Abbie Trzeciak helped Seneca Valley's girls basketball team topple Shaler on the road in Section 3-AAA action Thursday night.

Lambert scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Trzeciak scored a game-high 20 points and also had seven rebounds for the Raiders (7-9, 5-4).

Shaler (12-4, 5-3) led 28-26 at halftime before Seneca Valley rallied in the second half.

Hickory 41, Slippery Rock 22 — The Rockets were shutout in the third quarter and struggled to find scoring in a Region 5-AAA road loss to the Hornets (15-0, 5-0).

Nicole Papley and Marissa Siebka led Slippery Rock (11-3, 5-2) in scoring with seven points.

Hockey

Four players scored for Seneca Valley to help the Raiders beat State College 4-2 at Pegula Ice Arena.

After State College (6-7-1) scored 53 seconds into the second period to open the scoring, Seneca Valley (8-6) answered with a flurry.

The Raiders scored three goals in the next 3 minutes, 34 seconds to take a 3-1 lead and put the game away. Spencer Schutte, Brendan Macfarlane and Andrew Gagnon all netted goals for Seneca Valley. Peter Kipin gave the Raiders some breathing room when he scored on a power play. Raiders goalie Tanner Pfeffer made 29 saves.

Freeport 5, Serra Catholic 1 — The Yellowjackets used a five-point night from Cole Hepler to win their fourth straight game at the Belmont Ice Complex.

Hepler had two goals and three assists, helping set up Tyler Sherrieb, Connor Dlubak and Robert Reichenbaugh for goals.

Matthew Huston made 14 saves for Freeport (7-3-2).

Rifle

Hempfield 800 (57x), Butler 797 (51x) — Chloe Eagal, Raycine McCandless, Zach Fisher, Weseley Mccurdy and Connor Harvey all shot 100s in the Golden Tornado's loss to the Spartans.

Swimming

Noah Gumto hit a WPIAL qualifying time in the 500 freestyle as the Knoch swimming team swept Northgate on the road.

Gumto was a double winner, winning the 200 IM and 500 freestyle. John Wilson also picked up two wins in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly to help Knoch win 90-75.

On the girls side, Abby Jones (100 free and 100 breast), Rachel Wittmer (100 back and 200 free) and Brooke Zukowski (50 free and 500 free) were all double winners as the Knights won 90-75.
