Catholic Schools Week slated to begin Monday

The Diocese of Pittsburgh will celebrate Catholic Schools Week Monday through Feb. 1 with activities highlighting the theme, “Catholic Schools — Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.”

Bishop David Zubik said, “Catholic school students recognize that everything about a Catholic school cares about their lives and their future. That bears fruit in each student’s life, as they thrive in such a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere — an atmosphere where God is right where God should and must be — front and center.”

In Butler County, Butler Catholic School, 515 E. Locust St., will have an open house from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday; a Junior Achievement Day with parents presenting programs to students Tuesday; “Cowboy Day,” Wednesday; the student talent show is featured Jan. 30; and an all-school liturgy, as well as dress-up day, is scheduled for Jan. 31.

St. Gregory, 115 Pine St., Zelienople, will feature various dress themes all week and will include a Wii bowling tournament Tuesday, a science fair Wednesday, and it concludes Jan. 31 with a 9 a.m. Mass and the annual Grade 8 versus faculty volleyball game at 2 p.m.

Holy Sepulcher, 6515 Old Route 8, Middlesex Township, will have an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday focusing on vocations includes presentations on the priesthood and religious life.

Wednesday includes an appreciation luncheon for Junior Achievement volunteers, faculty and staff. And on Jan. 31, after the popular “Minute to Win It,” faculty will serve sundaes to students as part of faculty appreciation of students.

St. Kilian, 7076 Franklin Road, Cranberry Township will have a whole-school Mass Tuesday with a prayer chain made after Mass led by student council and cards of thanks made for priests; dress-down day Tuesday; classroom movie day Wednesday; and a whole-school afternoon bingo Jan 31.
