Boundary line issue raised

Supervisors want more info

MIDDLESEX TWP — Although the Adams Township supervisors have offered to pay any cost associated with determining the correct boundary line between Adams and Middlesex townships, Middlesex officials say they want more information.

Middlesex solicitor Michael Hnath told the supervisors Wednesday night that their counterparts in Adams have asked Middlesex for a joint meeting regarding the location of the boundary line.

He said the Adams supervisors have requested that Middlesex agree to the border before the meeting, although neither Hnath nor the supervisors have seen any documents or maps containing the line that Adams proposes.

“The problem with that is we don’t know what they want us to agree to,” Hnath said.

He said county assessment maps show roughly where the line is, and Adams engineers are supposedly proposing a line that is close to it, Hnath said.

“They are trying to establish where the line is, not move it,” Hnath said.

The original boundary lines were determined in the 1850s, but officials now are unsure exactly where the boundary is, Hnath said.

Township manager Scot Fodi said there have been minor development issues on Meredith Drive behind Mars Middle School, which spans both townships.

He said having a clear line would help developers or home builders.

But Fodi and all three supervisors agreed that no meeting with Adams supervisors would be planned until Middlesex receives a map with Adams’ proposed boundary.

“Once we have something tangible, we’ll talk about a meeting,” Fodi said.

Adams and Middlesex officials began talks in 2009 about delineating their boundary line, but the project was scrapped, Fodi said.
