William M. 'Bill' Baxter
William M. “Bill” Baxter, 71, of Mars died Wednesday evening at the Butler VNA Hospice.
Born in Wilkinsburg, Pa., on Sept. 30, 1942, he was the son of the late James Cowan and Gertrude Gettens Baxter.
Bill was a laborer with the Laborer's Union Local 1058 in Pittsburgh, where he worked in heavy highway construction.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and served on the naval blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He was a past commander of the Evans City VFW, and he served on the Zelienople American Legion Honor Guard.
A senior member of the Evans City Sportsman's Club, he enjoyed hunting, leather and woodworking and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores “Dee” Thomas Baxter, who he married on May 16, 1923; his two sons, Scott Baxter of Atlanta, Ga., and William Baxter of Callery; his two daughters, Colleen Jackline and her husband, Joseph, of Hadley, Pa., and Christina Dunn and her husband, Russell, of Fenelton; his grandchildren, Larissa, William, Joseph, Nathaniel, Christopher, Mackenzie and Jessica; his great-granddaughter, Peyton; his sister, Shirley Stanick and her husband, John, of Loveland, Colo., and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Maddy, and his brother, James Baxter.
BAXTER — The friends of William M. “Bill” Baxter, who died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeffrey Curtis, pastor of the Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church, officiating.
