BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College's basketball teams dropped a pair of games to Jamestown CC recently.

Cody West scored 22 points and Tyler Copeland added 10 in the Pioneer men's 58-46 loss. BC3 is 1-10 on the season.

Shelby Johnston had 19 points and 13 rebounds, but the Pioneer women (1-9) dropped a 76-38 decision. Ashley Brehm contributed eight points and six assists.

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Butler resident and Michigan State University sophomore goaltender Jake Hildebrand received one of the three Big Ten weekly star awards recently.Hildebrand made 44 saves and stopped all three shooters in the shootout to lead the Spartans to a victory over Minnesota.He made 35 saves in a 3-2loss to the Golden Gophers the next day. He had a .940 save percentage in the two games.Hildebrand ranks second in the Big Ten with 305 saves this season.

PITTSBURGH — Butler graduate and La Roche College freshman Mackenzie O'Donnell scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the Redhawks' 81-37 win over D'Youville Saturday.La Roche is 9-0 on the year and has won 16 consecutive home games.

Army fired coach Rich Ellerson after five seasons at West Point and no victories against Navy.Army athletic director Boo Corrigan said in a statement released by the school that Ellerson was notified that he would not be retained about 24 hours after the Black Knights (3-9) finished the season with a 34-7 loss to Navy.

Peyton Manning is Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year.Manning has led Denver to an 11-3 record this year, his second with the Broncos after missing the 2011 season with Indianapolis because of neck troubles that affected his right triceps. LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Reigning Olympic champion Steven Holcomb remained perfect on the season Sunday, driving USA-1 to victory in a World Cup 4-man race at Mount Van Hoevenberg.Holcomb and his team of Curt Tomasevicz, Steve Langton and Chris Fogt finished two runs in 1 minute, 50.15 seconds.Holcomb has driven to victory in all seven of his World Cup starts this season.
