LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Retired managers Joe Torre, Tony La Russa and Bobby Cox were unanimously elected to the baseball Hall of Fame by the expansion era committee.

Each of the inductees won more than 2,000 games in managerial careers that spanned more than four decades. Torre became the fifth manager to win at least four World Series titles. La Russa won championships with Oakland and St. Louis. Cox led Atlanta to one championship and 14 straight division titles.

NEW YORK — Florida State's Jameis Winston, Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch, Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, Alabama's AJ McCarron, Auburn's Tre Mason and Boston College's Andre Williams were chosen as the finalists for the Heisman Trophy.Six finalists invited to ceremony in New York are the most since 1994. The winner will be announced Saturday.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Wake Forest has hired Dave Clawson from Bowling Green as its next football coach, a person familiar with the situation said.The person said a news conference to introduce Clawson was expected Tuesday. The hiring comes three days after Clawson led Bowling Green (10-3) to an upset of then-No. 16 Northern Illinois in the Mid-American Conference championship game and one day after the Falcons were invited to the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.

SEATTLE — Chris Petersen said it was simply a gut feeling that it was time to take on a new challenge by leaving Boise State for Washington.Petersen was 92-12 at Boise State, including five conference titles and two Fiesta Bowl victories. He replaces Steve Sarkisian, who was 34-29 in five seasons at Washington before taking the job at USC.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Pittsburgh defensive tackle Aaron Donald won the Bronko Nagurski award given to the nation's top college defensive player.The ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Donald averaged 2.2 tackles for loss per game while ranking 10th in forced fumbles and 13th in sacks per game.The senior has 28½ sacks for his career.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots must get used to playing without Rob Gronkowski again.The star tight end is done for the season after being placed on injured reserve with a damaged right knee.
