Harmony passes budget that holds line on taxes

HARMONY — The borough’s council recently passed the 2014 borough budget that doesn’t include a tax increase.

Council President Jim Hulings said at the council meeting Tuesday night he can’t remember the last time council raised taxes.

The property tax rate for 2014 will remain at 11.085 mills with an additional 1.125 mills for fire services.

The borough allocated $538,600 for spending in the balanced budget, which doesn’t include any big capital improvement projects.

“We’re a very small town and we don’t have a lot of money to respond on special projects,” Hulings said. “We maintain the streets the best we can and try to keep the borough safe. Safety is our No. 1 priority.”

Hulings praised council’s finance committee for holding the line on taxes.
