Corbetts co-chair drive for presents
GIBSONIA — Gov. Tom Corbett and his wife, Susan, are honorary co-chairs of this year’s Presents for Patients campaign, which delivers holiday gifts to thousands of senior citizens in nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
“We are proud to be a part of something that touches so many lives during this special time of year,” Corbett said in a news release.
The official launch of this year’s Presents for Patients campaign was Tuesday with the lighting of a Christmas tree on the St. Barnabas Health System campus in Gibsonia.
This year, Presents for Patients will provide gifts to 14,000 patients in long-term care homes.
Presents for Patients is seeking two things: donations to pay for gifts and volunteers to deliver them. People interested in helping can call the Presents for Patients hot line, 724-443-0011, or online go to PresentsForPatients.com.
The campaign has bought 10,000 sweatshirts and needs volunteers to deliver them and to spend time visiting these older Pennsylvanians. Volunteers will be matched with patients at a nursing facility.
