Ohio State players OK for title game
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer says the players ejected from the Michigan game for fighting will not be suspended for the Big Ten championship game.
Running back Dontre Wilson and offensive lineman Marcus Hall were kicked out of Saturday’s game when a skirmish broke out after a kickoff return in the second quarter.
Meyer said Sunday that he will meet with athletic director Gene Smith and speak with Big Ten officials about the fight.
Alabama faithful supporting Foster
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama kicker Cade Foster was inundated with support from teammates and thousands of fans on social media after missing two field goal attempts and having a third blocked in the Crimson Tide’s loss to Auburn.
The initial negative backlash after Saturday’s 34-28 defeat mostly turned supportive by Sunday. A fan page titled “Bama fans supporting Cade Foster” was started on Facebook after the game and was approaching 40,000 “likes” by Sunday afternoon. It included a message that negative posts would be deleted.
Florida grid coach fires 2 assistants
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida coach Will Muschamp didn’t wait very long to start making changes.
The school confirmed Sunday that Muschamp fired offensive coordinator Brent Pease and offensive line coach Tim Davis less than 24 hours after the Gators (4-8) completed their first losing season since 1979.
Muschamp dismissed Pease and Davis a day after a humbling, 37-7 loss to rival Florida State.
Vikings’ Peterson hits 10,000 yards
MINNEAPOLIS — Adrian Peterson became the third-fastest player in NFL history to reach 10,000 yards rushing for his career.
Peterson passed the mark for Minnesota in the fourth quarter Sunday against Chicago in his 101st career game. Eric Dickerson got there in 91 games, and Jim Brown did so in 98 games.
Pelicans lose Davis to broken hand
NEW YORK — New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis broke his left hand against the New York Knicks, and the team says a timetable for his return is to be determined.
The second-year star was injured in the first half Sunday. Davis was averaging 19.6 points and 10.6 rebounds entering the game.
McIlroy gets win at Australian Open
SYDNEY — Rory McIlroy birdied the 18th hole to beat Adam Scott at the Australian Open, winning for the first time in 2013 and denying Scott the Triple Crown of Australian golf.
McIlroy started the last round four shots behind Scott, but drew even when he eagled the seventh and birdied the eighth.
