BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams posted their first wins of the season Saturday.

Cody West scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had five assists in the Pioneer men’s 82-74 victory over Lorain Community College.

Tyler Copeland added 19 points, Hunter French 17 points and Tom Bruce 12 rebounds for BC3 (1-6). The Pioneers led 34-33 at halftime and sank 28 of 36 free throws.

Shelby Johnston scored 27 points and snared 12 rebounds to lead the women (1-5) to a 69-59 triumph over Lorain CC.

Jen Barry contributed 14 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, Ashley Brehm 12 points and eight assists, Cam Horwat 12 points.

Assistant coach Joe Spino ran both squads Saturday as head coach Dick Hartung was unavailable.
