Write-in election winners announced
The Nov. 5 election filled many open municipal posts such as mayors and township supervisors, but county elections officials still are busy sorting out write-in winners and ties.
Shari Brewer, director of the county’s board of elections, said there still are nearly 50 open positions across the county that must be filled by write-in candidates.
Many of those posts are for non-voting positions such as auditor, constable or tax collector, and most of those have only one write-in candidate who will assume office.
But there are some undecided races such as in West Sunbury where three write-in candidates got the same number of votes for mayor.
A winner of that race will be picked Friday at the county bureau of elections office in Butler where officials will use a lot system to choose a winner.
Other races that require a tie-breaker include constable for Seven Fields, tax collector for Valencia and auditor for West Liberty.
Brewer said the election results just became official on Tuesday, which means that elections officials only recently sent out letters to notify each write-in winner.
Those winners have until Dec. 6 to respond to the letters, and any position not filled by then will be filled by each individual municipality.
Brewer said the number of write-in candidates this year isn’t any different from in past years.
