Minto defeated in 2nd fight of tourney
Butler heavyweight Brian Minto lost by unanimous decision to eventual champion Michael Sprott in the semifinals of a pro boxing tournament Thursday night.
The event — featuring a series of three-round bouts — took place at York Hall in London, England.
Minto (38-7-0, 24 KOs), 37, won by split decision over Tom Little (3-2) of the United Kingdom in the opening round. Little’s only previous pro loss was a third-round TKO of Tom Dallas (15-2).
Sprott (40-21-0), also of the United Kingdom, wound up winning the tournament. He decisioned Damian Mills (31-3) in his first bout before defeating Minto.
All three judges scored the Sprott-Minto bout 28-27.
Sprott scored a unanimous decision over Jason Gavern (23-15-4) in the final match. Gavern had eliminated former world champion James Toney (75-8-3) in the semifinals.
