Symphony names concert master

Tanya Satteson is the new concert master of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra.

The Butler County Symphony Orchestra has named Tanya Satteson as the new concert master.

The concert master is the leader of the first violins and assists the conductor.

Satteson is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music where she earned a master’s in violin performance and was awarded the Dean’s Award for Academic Achievement.

She has attended numerous summer festivals including the Banff Centre for the Arts and the Music Bridge Program.

A full- or part-time member of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra for four seasons, Satteson was a member of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra for two seasons and also has worked with the Academy Chamber Orchestra in Pittsburgh for the past three years.

She has appeared as a soloist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra, and the National Repertory Orchestra.

She has won the Women’s Musical Club Competition of Winnipeg, the University of Manitoba Concerto Competition, the Lawrence Genser Performance Competition, and the Young Artists Performance Competition. She was been awarded a first place standing and scholarship at the national finals of the Canadian Music Competition three times.

Satteson has served as an early childhood music and violin faculty member at the Center for Young Musicians in Wexford since 2007.

She maintains a home studio in Cranberry Township.

Upcoming symphony events include the 24th annual Holiday Tour of Homes set for Dec. 7 and the annual holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at Butler Intermediate High School and at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at Seneca Valley Intermediate High School.
