Mars Superintendent William Pettigrew reads to a second grade class Thursday at Mars Elementary School. The day was declared Dr. Pettigrew Day by the school board in honor of Pettigrew, who will retire Dec. 1 after 26 years at the helm. All five school buildings served meatloaf, which is Pettigrew's favorite dish, and students were treated to a “Pettigrew Pretzel.” The day also included the playing of a recorded message by Pettigrew at morning announcements, a visit to each building by Pettigrew, and a blue jean day for all teachers and staff.
