Anthony C. Daum
Anthony C. Daum died Monday of cancer in Houston, Texas.
He was born July 2, 1944, in Newark, N.J., and graduated from Fairview Township-Karns City High School in 1962. He graduated from Washington and Jefferson College in 1966, with a bachelor of arts degree in history and earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1969.
From 1969 to 1972 he served with the U.S. Army. During his service as a captain with the 124th Transportation Command at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service.
After leaving the Army he began a 40 year career with Bechtel Corporation. While at Bechtel he worked as a contracts manager on construction projects around the world including the Arun LNG Project in Indonesia, the New Riyadh Airport Project in Saudi Arabia, the New Palace Project in Brunei and the Pakistan Airports Project in Karachi, Pakistan. From 1992 to 2013, Tony and his family lived in Bangkok where he worked on a series of gas pipeline projects for the Petroleum Authority of Thailand. Tony was a railroad enthusiast and rode trains on six continents. He was also a dedicated book collector and had amassed a large library on a wide range of subjects. He had an extensive gun collection and had written a number of articles which appeared in specialist gun collector publications. At the time of his death he was finalizing his magnum opus “United States Military Firearms Inspector's Marks.”
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Newton C. and Alice O'Leary Daum.
He is survived by his wife, Susanti “Santi” (Sanusi) Daum, who he married on Oct. 1, 1980, and his sons, Alexander, Christopher and Nicholas, all of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, Steven of Gibsonia; his nieces, Jennifer of Gibsonia, Meghan of Wheeling, W.Va. and Sarah of Butler, and members of his extended family in New Jersey and Western Pennsylvania.
DAUM — A memorial service for Anthony C. Daum who died of cancer in Houston, Texas, on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Earthman Funeral Home, Stafford, Texas.
