Rock women prevail in OT
SLIPPERY ROCK — Dara Demich scored thedeciding goal with 2:40 left in the second overtime Friday as Slippery Rock University’s women’s soccer team posted a 2-1 victory over East Stroudsburg.
Andrea Felix — who scored the tying goal with 39 seconds left in the first half — assisted on the game-winner. SRU (11-2-1, 10-2-1) won its sixth consecutive game.
SRU is second in the PSAC standings, five points behind California (Pa.).
Demich’s goal was her seventh of the season. Cailin Conner split two defenders to set up the pass to Felix on the game-deciding play.
Dana O’Neill made four saves in goal for The Rock.
Men’s SoccerDom Francis rifled a free kick under the cross bar in the 86th minute to lift Slippery Rock University to a 1-0 over East Stroudsburg at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on Friday.Chris Zier earned his fifth shutout with four saves in net for The Rock (11-2-1, 6-1), which sits in third place in the PSAC.SRU, ranked No. 23 in the country, will have a quick turnaround with major playoff implications on the line when West Chester comes to town on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Field HockeySlippery Rock University failed to overcome a sluggish start in a 4-1 loss at Mercyhurst on Friday.Michelle Couch scored for SRU (6-11, 2-7) to tie it up, but the Lakers scored three unanswered goals to secure the victory.
