Police seeking theft suspect
MIDDLESEX TWP — Police are seeking a Pittsburgh area woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from her grandmother in the township and using a debit card to drain the same relative’s bank account.
The suspect, 22-year-old Chelsea N. Lee, allegedly stole the property earlier this month to feed a drug habit, according to Middlesex Township police Sgt. Randy Ruediger.
Police on Monday obtained an arrest warrant for Lee on felony charges of theft, receiving stolen property and access device fraud.
Investigators believe the defendant took the items between Oct. 11 and 15 while staying at Veronica Lee’s home on Medlo Drive.
Veronica Lee reported the thefts last week after discovering seven unauthorized bank account withdrawals, according to court documents.
The victim also found several gold chains and necklaces, valued at more than $2,000, missing from her house. She immediately suspected her granddaughter in the thefts.
Veronica Lee told police that the defendant “is addicted to heroin,” documents said.
Investigators later tracked down surveillance video at a convenience store in Gibsonia that showed Lee using an automated teller machine at the time her grandmother’s account was accessed, documents said.
Ruediger on Wednesday acknowledged that police have no idea of Lee’s whereabouts and he believed she could have fled the area.
