CHICORA COUNCIL
MORTLAND: I am running for election as an individual who has an appreciation for how well our small town has been managed in the 23 years I have lived here. I realize that it is a challenge to effectively provide borough services while minimizing the tax burden on local residents, many of whom are low income. Our council has also lost several dedicated members this year.
MALEY: No response.
CALLIHAN: No response.
MORTLAND: Maintaining and improving our borough infrastructure, including our streets, stormwater run-off system, and our excellent municipal water company is a top priority. I also have an interest in protecting and enhancing homeowner property values, particularly by identifying abandoned and distressed properties. Finally council must keep a watchful eye on the growth of shale drilling in the area and the impact that it could have on our town.MALEY: No response.CALLIHAN: No response.
MORTLAND: As shale drilling activity increases in our area, we may face “boom town” problems, and I feel its best to anticipate those issues rather than react to them as they arise in the future. There is also likely to be an increase in traffic, particularly heavy truck traffic, through the borough which may have the effect of pushing other traffic onto borough owned and maintained streets. Impact money received by the borough should be largely directed to the repair and improvement of borough infrastructure, including our water company, as needed.MALEY: No response.CALLIHAN: No response.
