EC native establishes scholarship with wife
ALTOONA — An Evans City native and his wife have established a scholarship for Penn State students at the university’s Altoona campus.
David and Sandy Kline of State College both earned bachelor’s degrees in education from Penn State.
The intent of the Sandra Gutshall Kline Trustee Scholarship was created by the couple to ensure that no academically qualified student would not be able to go to Penn State due to financial hardship.
The minimum award would be $1,250 per academic year, but those could increase if the need is greater.
Once the scholarship is fully endowed, it will generate nearly $10,000 in awards per year for students.
Sandy Kline, who is originally from Altoona, attended the Penn State Altoona campus on a four-year scholarship.
She said the impact of that scholarship factored prominently into the Klines’ reason to create their scholarship.
“Because of the influence the Minnie Patton Stayman Scholarship had on my educational career, my desire is to ease the financial burden on other qualified students as they pursue their education in the Penn State tradition,” Kline said.
David Kline added, “I hope this scholarship influences young people to continue their college education and to give back to those who follow.”
