Freeport golfers 3rd in WPIAL play

Cole Hepler fired a 78 at Cedarbrook Gold Golf Course to help the Freeport boys golf team to a third-place finish in the WPIAL Team Championships Thursday afternoon.

Freeport shot a 418 as a team. Sewickley Academy won the team title with a 398 while Burgettstown was second with a 408.

Girls VolleyballMakayli Terwilliger had 13 kills and three blocks, but the Falcons fell in a five-game marathon to North Clarion 20-25, 28-26, 21-25, 25-19, 12-15.Jessica Callender added nine kills and eight digg, Morgan Cratty nine kills and seven blocks, Sadie Longo nine digs, 11 assists, five kills and three blocks and Melanie Lewis 18 assists and six digs for the Falcons (7-4).Knoch 3, Avonworth 0 — Celina Sanks had 21 kills and Mary Zellhart had 28 service points in a 25-11, 25-14, 25-20 sweep.Schaely Renfrew added eight kills for the Knights.Freeport 3, Mars 0 — Zoe Pawlak notched 15 points, three aces and 10 kills to lead the Yellowjackets to a 25-9, 25-15, 25-14 sweep of the Planets.Wilmington 3, Slippery Rock 0 — Abbey Little had four aces and Carly Shearer 13 digs as the Rockets (5-7) lost 21-25, 21-25, 18-25.

Boys SoccerMars edged Knoch in a pivotal section game 3-2.Mars improved to 12-5 overall and 8-4 in the section while Knoch fell to 9-5-4 overall and 7-3-2 in section play.No individual statistics were available.Freeport 3, Kittanning 1 — Wayne Vogel, Patrick McNulty and Johan Loevlie each scored a goal for the Yellowjackets (5-10-1).
