With songs in hand and ready to record, Rachael Mellor of Grove City is hosting a “Rockin’ to a Record” concert Oct. 18 at the Barrow-Civic Theater, 1223 Liberty St., Franklin.

Mellor graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 2001 and from Westminster College in 2005 with a degree in theater.

“I’m going to record a CD with studio musicians in Nashville, so I’m raising money for that,” Mellor said.

“I love Nashville ... and it’s easier to find the whole package down there, even though I’m not a country artist. Around here I’d have to get a producer, then get it mixed and mastered somewhere else. Down there, I can get that all in one place.”

For the Oct. 18 show, Mellor said she will be debuting an original song.

“I wrote lyrics and melody, and I have a lot of others but I have to collaborate with other people to get the whole instrumentation done,” she said.

Mellor described her music as a lot of pop with rhythm and blues soul.

“Everyone tries to put me in a box,” she said. “I’m definitely not country. I tried that route for a while, but it’s just not me.”

She also often sings ballads. “I sing with a rock band, too, so I infuse all these things,” she said.

Other performers at the Oct. 18 show will be Tammi Dahl, Lisa Cook, Casey McVay and Nathaniel Licht.

“I kind of set this up so it’s a whole show. So they are singing a couple songs themselves, and then I’m doing some songs with each of them and there will be a group song,” Mellor said.

Also, a choreographer has set a few songs to dance steps. Dancers from Clarion University will perform, including Stephanie Kulikowski, Morgan McMillen, Cammeron Ogden, Harley Pifferetti and Tifani Sprankle.

Tickets to the show are $15. Call 814-437-3440.
