'Esther the Musical'
GROVE CITY — “Esther the Musical” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tower Presbyterian Church, 248 S. Broad St.
In its ninth production, this live performance features 18 original songs, a cast of 26, period costumes and a script full of suspense and just enough light comedy.
It retells the Biblical story of Esther’s heroic effort to thwart Haman’s plan to destroy the Hebrews.
This story of rescue is celebrated annually during the Jewish Feast of Purim.
Christian pianist and composer Jeannie Allen of Valencia composed the music and wrote the script for this two-hour Broadway-style performance. She will be directing the show.
The songs range from ballads to jazz, operatic to Hebrew, and Jamaican to Broadway.
The theme song of the show, “At This Time, In This Place,” is sung by Esther as she tries to decide her fate. It is then sung again in reprise by the entire cast as good triumphs over evil.
Mary Phillips of Baden plays the role of Esther.
The role of Mordecai is played by Sam Bartley of Valencia. The King is portrayed by Brian Louttit of Valencia, and Jay Toogood of Butler plays Haman.
The cast also includes: Davlin Smith and Andrew Sloboda, both of Butler; Jonathan George, Linda Norris, Bob Norris, Samantha Bartley, Kelly Strutt, Marissa Louttit and Elizabeth Louttit, all of Valencia; Skip Cooper, Katie Olsen and Dalton Smith, all of Mars; Carol Jamison of Evans City; Jim McKee of Gibsonia; Chloe Phillips of Baden; Justin Smith of Wexford; and Kathryn Allen Rickenback of Pittsburgh.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and free for children younger than 12. Tickets are available at Slovak Folk Crafts, 1605 S. Center St., Grove City, or at the door.
