MANSFIELD, Pa. — Mansfield University plans to cut up to 29 full-time faculty positions and 25 administrative jobs due to a projected $14.3 million shortfall over the next two years.

The school says in a release today that it has had enrollment declines over the past three years, and reduced state support.

Discussions with the affected faculty and staff who could lose jobs will take place soon.

The school is about 130 miles north of Harrisburg, near the New York border. It is one of the 14 universities in the State System of Higher Education, along with Slippery Rock University.

Mansfield officials say the enrollment decline is a reflection of the shrinking number of high school graduates in northern Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York.
