Construction to slow traffic on turnpike tonight
The Pennsylvania Turnpike says westbound motorists will have intermittent, 20-minute traffic paces between Pittsburgh (Exit 57) and Butler Valley (Exit 39) starting at midnight tonight to 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The paces will start at milepost 52 and end at milepost 46.
During the paces, a state police vehicle will restrict traffic to speeds of 20 to 25 mph, allowing the contractor time to set steel beams on the new Rich Hill Road overhead bridge at milepost 46.3. The bridge is being replaced in two stages to maintain local traffic on this project.
Motorists should be prepared for slow-moving traffic and possible intermittent stops.
Eastbound traffic will not be affected.
This bridge work is needed for the future widening and reconstruction of the turnpike from milepost 40 to 48.
