Fight at game ends in arrest

CARLISLE — The uncle of a girl involved in a fight among cheerleaders at a youth football game is facing charges after allegedly assaulting an off-duty state trooper who was trying to break it up.

Damien Jones, 29, of Harrisburg was charged with aggravated and simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after the Sunday evening game in Carlisle.

North Middleton Township Police Chief Douglas Reitz said the trooper was trying to make an arrest after a 13-year-old cheerleader wouldn’t stop fighting. Reitz says that’s when Jones, the uncle of one of the cheerleaders, attacked the trooper and knocked him down.

Jones was taken to Cumberland County jail. Court records did not list a lawyer for him.
