City police arrest man 3 times in 1 day
A 51-year-old homeless man is to be arraigned this morning after being charged three times in one day.
James J. Tiani ended up housed in the Butle County Prison on Tuesday after being arrested by the Butler police.
For Tiani the long day’s journey into a night at the prison began about midnight Tuesday when he showed up at the city police station on West New Castle Street.
He walked into the lobby, apparently intoxicated. When he was asked why he was there, he replied, “Cause I’m all drunken up,” the police report said.
He was taken to the station’s holding cell and allowed to sober up before being released that morning. He was cited for public drunkenness.
Later he was at Servanti’s restaurant on South Chestnut Street. But when it came time to pay his $16.95 tab, he told the staff that he had no money.
Police were called and cited him for theft of services. He was told he was not welcome back at the restaurant.
Night came Tuesday and found Tiani in trouble again, this time at the Washington Manor Personal Care Home on South Washington Street.
Tiani had become something of a pest there, authorities said, showing up almost daily for no particular reason.
Care home officials had told him that he had worn out his welcome. So when he returned about 9:10 p.m., police were called and took him away.
He was arrested and taken to the prison, where he was to be arraigned this morning on a charge of defiant trespass.
