Grace 'Gracie' Julia (Felix) Jamison
Our beloved Grace “Gracie” Julia (Felix) Jamison, 89, of Cherry Valley, went to life eternal at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice after a brief illness.
Born at home on June 17, 1924, in Poland Township, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clark B. Felix and Renia Lucetta Felix.
Grace was married to Robert (Bob) Jamison on Aug. 20, 1951, nearly 47 years before his passing June 9, 1998.
Grace is survived by her only son, Sherburne (Sherb) Jamison and his wife, Sue, of Cherry Valley; her granddaughters, Melissa (Jason) Hanlon of Evans City, Valerie (Casey) Jordan of Chicora and Holly (Mike) O'Lare of Edinburg, Pa., and her six great-grandchildren, Jamison and Jesse Hanlon, Braxton and Roman Jordan and Kamren and Kali Grace O'Lare. Grace also is survived by two sisters, Caroline Wisener of Baden, Pa., and Violet Mae Baird of Slidell, La., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by two sisters, five brothers, a stepbrother, Sherburne VanTassel, and a great-grandson, Kyle W. Hanlon.
Grace loved to work, never tiring. In her younger years she worked at Butler Memorial Hospital and would help her father on the family farm. She would carry her young son on her back, trudge through deep snow and walk a half mile to her father's farm to do daily chores.
She worked at the Eau Claire shoe factory, the Moniteau High School cafeteria and the Emlenton Motel. She was a caregiver for Vivian Beatty for a number of years, housekeeper for Jack and Gail Buzard for nearly 30 years and most recently worked at close neighbor friends cleaning, where she got the nickname “Rosie.”
She always was helping her daughter-in-law prepare for celebrations. Grace made countless trips to her granddaughters' houses helping them “spring” clean or prepare for great-grandchildren's birthday parties. She always showed up with her bucket and cleaning rags and eager to go to work.
Grace loved growing flowers, especially roses, and she would sit watching the glorious birds in the morning at her feeders while having her coffee. She made delicious, meticulously decorated sugar cookies for every holiday and granddaughters' weddings and close friends looked forward to receiving a tin of her cookies for Christmas.
Grace was a member of the East Unity Presbyterian Church, Cherry Valley.
