The Maridon Museum has announced several upcoming programs.
Programs on netsuke, or miniature Japanese carvings worn with kimonos, for both children and adults will also take place in September.
Dixie Lipnichan, who is a Japanese language and world cultures teacher at Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School, will present both programs.
Participants will learn the history of the netsuke and the folklore behind the carvings. Those attending will visit the Maridon's wall of more than 100 netsuke as well as make their own carvings to take home.
The children's netsuke program will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 28 for children ages 5 to 14.
The adult netsuke program will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 28 for those age 15 and older.
Cost is $5. Reservations are required, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Indian fall film series starts with a Bollywood classic, “Worship” at 6 p.m. Sept. 23. “Worship” is a remake of the 1946 film “To Each His Own.”
The series will continue with “Sometimes There Is Joy, Sometimes There Is Sorrow” at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 14
Treasure or Trinket? Antique appraisals will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 19. Verbal appraisals by antiques dealers will cost $5 per item with a limit of 10 items.
A build a horse program for children from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 9 will include a stick horse building and decorating session with Marian Gufstafson. Cost is $10 per child and $8 for each additional child and includes all materials and a snack.
These horses will be used to announce the Year of the Horse and the Maridon's 10th anniversary in the Butler City Christmas parade.
Mah Jongg at the Maridon will take place Fridays from 12:30 to 3 p.m. when an “American Rules” Mah Jongg group meets. Mah Jongg is a table game played with tiles. All playing levels are welcome. Instructors are usually on hand for beginners.
