Reznor's Edge
GROVE CITY — There's a familiar refrain at the Grove City High football practice.
“Watch Foster,” says Eagles' football coach Jeff Bell. “That's how I want it done.”
Since he was a freshman, Foster Reznor has impressed the Grove City coaching staff with his work ethic.
There is no half-speed with Reznor, now a 5-foot-11, 187-pound senior running back with blazing speed.
“You can come to practice, summer workouts, anything we do and he'll be the hardest working kid out there,” Bell said.
Reznor has some talent to go with his desire.
He rushed for 439 yards and seven touchdowns on just 47 carries as a freshman for the Eagles and has scored 21 more touchdowns to go with 1,589 yards the last two seasons.
This year, though, he is poised to have even more gaudy statistics.
With Chad Williams and Harold Price lost to graduation and inexperienced backs behind him, Reznor could see more touches than in seasons' past.
“We'll see how things pan out,” Reznor said. “I'll be more than fine with taking the load and doing whatever we need to win games. It doesn't matter to me.”
Reznor spent the summer getting stronger in the weight room in case much more is asked of him. He also went to every football camp he could so he could be seen by college scouts.
He was graded a four-star recruit out of Pennsylvania.
“After this year, hopefully I can get up to a five star,” he said.
Bell doesn't doubt that he will.
“Yes, he had natural talent. He has speed and all of that,” Bell said. “But I've never seen a kid work as hard as he does.”
To Reznor, that is an ethic he's always had.
It's important to him to be a leader, both verbally and by example.
It's also important to him to be able to do whatever the team needs him to do.
That has included long-snapping and punting.
He learned how to long snap as a freshman because he wanted to get on the field any way he could.
“He can do anything,” Bell said. “He can throw the football, too. He can probably kick extra points.”
Grove City plans on using his versatility this season. Offensive coordinator Keith DeGraaf may move Reznor all over the field.
“Foster's a talent,” DeGraaf said. “So, we're going to move him around. This may be one of those years he gets a lot more touches than somebody else. We have to make the most of what we have.”
