Pitt hoops sets schedule

PITTSBURGH — Maryland and Duke will visit the Peterson Events Center during Pittsburgh’s first season in the ACC this winter.

The school’s 2013-14 schedule, released Thursday, includes 18 home games. The Panthers, who moved from the Big East to the ACC last month, begin play in their new conference home on Jan. 4 at N.C. State.

The Terrapins then visit The Pete two days later for Pitt’s conference home opener. Perennial ACC power Duke plays in Pittsburgh on Jan. 27. Other home conference games include Wake Forest, Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Syracuse.

The Panthers, who went 24-9 last year, open the season on Nov. 18 against Savannah State and will face Penn State as part of the Big Ten-ACC challenge on Dec. 3.
